How to Pick
a Size
A guide · 15 sports
The board finder turns your weight and level into a size range with the rules of thumb written out here. They are the ones shops and sizing guides quote, not any brand’s chart: where a brand publishes its own rider-weight range, the finder shows it on the card, and it should win.
Your level
- First sessions: still learning to get up and stay up.
- Getting there: riding, working on turns and transitions.
- Confident: linking runs in most conditions.
- Expert: the smallest board that still gets you going.
Your weight
With your wetsuit on, if you ride in one. Add 10 to 15 L of float per sport for a long, light-wind launch or a heavy foil; take some away for waves, strong wind and a small, fast foil. Volume is the first number, not the only one: the finder’s cards say which boards at your size are the wider, steadier ones and which the longer, gliding ones.
When the brand says otherwise
109 models (309 sizes) in the atlas come with the brand’s own rider-weight range. The finder prints it under the board (“Duotone says 70–85 kg: fits you”). A brand knows its own rails and thickness; when its range and the rule of thumb disagree, go with the brand, and look at the next size on its page.

Where These Numbers Come From
The rules are the ones sizing charts and shops quote (“your weight plus 10 to 30 litres for a progressing wing foiler”), written down in one place and printed next to every range so nobody mistakes them for a brand’s chart. They are tuned to the boards in the atlas: every discipline and level gives a range that at least one board comes in. If you ride and find one wrong, tell us.
